Wangaratta Cricket Club AGM – September 1872

The annual meeting of this club was held on Tuesday last at the Bull's Head Hotel, Wangaratta, Dr Hutchinson (president) in the chair.  The first business was the election of officers. Dr Hutchinson was re-elected as president, and Mr J. R. Decker vice-president.  Mr G.S. Searl was proposed as secretary and treasurer, nom. was also Mr Clamp.  Mr Clamp was elected by five votes to three.  The annual report of the committee of the club was read.   showed that eight matches were played last season, of which the club won five and lost three.  Subscriptions had been collected from 20 members.  At the end of the season the club was 4 pound 18s 2 in debt, for which Mr J.B. Decker gave a cheque.

The ground had been improved, the necessary booth together with a ladies' booth, had been erected.  The report was received and elected committeemen - vis:- Messers Chandler, Searle, Crone, T. Cusack, Powell, Bath..., and Baldry.  The following new members were proposed: - Messrs O'Leary, Powell, M.Langtree, Lor. Smith, Kett, Weippert, and Merriman. Messrs Cro. T. Cusack, and Chandler were appointed as a sub - committee to accept tenders for supplying refreshments to the club, the basis of the tenders being that nobody were to be charged at 6d each. The meeting then closed, after which a committee meeting was held.
